Conasta

CONASTA is the annual conference of the Australian Science Teachers Association. It is convened each year in a different state or territory, in partnership between ASTA and that state or territory's Science Teacher's Association.

CONASTA brings together 300+ educators from all sectors, including schools, universities and scientific organisations, and provides high-quality professional development opportunities in the field of science teaching and learning. There is no other national event which brings together the depth and richness of science teaching expertise in such a spirit of learning, discovery and camaraderie.

CONASTA traditionally runs over three days (Mon-Wed) in July, with a Registration and Welcome function on the Sunday before. The program consists of approximately 6 keynote plenary sessions, including the prestigious Stanhope Oration, and a wide selection of on-site and off-site workshops. Our distinguished keynote speakers promote the excellence of Australian and international scientific and educational research. The on-site workshops, presented by teachers, researchers and science professionals, cover a broad range of subject areas including:

Primary science education
Secondary science education
Lab technician skills and practices
Curriculum implementation
Teaching resources and innovations

The off-site workshops allow delegates to visit some of the host state's most eminent scientific institutions and learn about the work they conduct and the ways they engage with the education sector.

The Conference provides a wonderful opportunity for science educators to exchange ideas about science teaching and learning and to maintain and develop national and international networks. The Welcome Function on the Sunday prior to the conference is a great opportunity for people to make new contacts and reconnect with old ones. Each year's program includes an optional Science Breakfast and Banquet dinner, as well as Happy Hour drinks and nibbles events at the close of each day. Post-conference tours of some of the host state's prime tourist spots are also available.

Each conference includes a Trade Display area where science and educational institutes, resource providers and industry practitioners demonstrate some of their latest programs, innovations products and services. Science educators are keen to keep abreast of the latest teaching resources, and we encourage displayers to think of new and innovative ways to engage with conference delegates.
